All four Northeastern Coastal Conference playoff teams were sandwiched together in the 2A East bracket this season: Edenton (seeded eighth), Northeastern (No. 4), Hertford County (5th) and First Flight (13th).
The NCC champion Eagles took on the Nighthawks, meaning at least one league team would be out after the opening round. Northeastern beat First Flight again this fall by a 48-19 margin, but some fumbles and long pass plays by the Nighthawks left NHS (10-2) knowing it must play better in the second round.
After all, Hertford County makes its return to Elizabeth City a few weeks removed from nearly upsetting NHS, falling 37-34.
Afterwards coach Antonio Moore was handed a ceremonial football honoring his 113th coaching win, all at his alma mater, making him the school’s winningest coach.
