The Edenton baseball team was unable to force a Game 3 in the 2A East Regional Finals as South Granville defeated the visiting Aces 4-3 in Game 2 on Thursday.
South Granville — the defending state champions — advances to the 2A state championship series for the second consecutive season.
Edenton concludes its season as the 2A East Region runners-up with a 21-6 overall record.
South Granville displayed why it is the defending 2A state champion.
The visiting Vikings exited Hicks Field with a 4-0 victory over Edenton on Tuesday with a 1-0 series lead.
Game 2 of the best-of-three series will be Thursday at South Granville in Creedmoor.
KILL DEVIL HILLS — The Currituck girls soccer team had chances to strike first, but it was again First Flight who took advantage of opportunities en route to a 3-1 win Friday.
That put the Lady Nighthawks — again a talented bunch and who only boast one senior — in the 2A East Regional Final on Tuesday at either Carrboro or Clinton.
First Flight handed the Lady Knights (19-3-1) all of their losses this spring during the program’s best-ever season by way of the fourth round postseason appearance.
Currituck’s Sydnie Phillips completed her strong prep career with 110 goals, and nearly half of them (48) came as a senior. She had the Lady Knights’ lone score Friday.

HERTFORD — A five-run first inning put the Perquimans softball team in charge throughout in an 8-3 victory against Jones Senior in the third round of the 1A state playoffs on Wednesday.
Seeded fourth in the 1A East, the Lady Pirates (21-2) now travel to top seed Princeton on Friday. A win would put the co-Coastal 10 Conference champions in the 1A East Regional Final three-game series.

With the win, the Aces — seeded No. 4 in the 2A East region — will face Northeastern Coastal Conference foe, No. 28 seed Currituck Tuesday at Hicks Field.
Perquimans was in a tight ballgame against Franklin Academy on Saturday in a 1A second round contest in Hertford.
The Lady Pirates used a five-run sixth inning to extend a 2-1 lead into a 7-1 victory over Franklin Academy.
Perquimans — seeded No. 4 in the East region — faces No. 21 Jones Senior at home on Tuesday.
