Second Round, 1A State Playoffs, baseball: Perquimans 2, Camden 1 (8 inn.)

CAMDEN — Two rivals met in the second round of the 1A state playoffs on Saturday, and it was Perquimans leaving Camden with a 2-1 victory in eight innings.

Andrew Tyson and Tyler Beyel both had solid performances on the mound. It was Tyson’s Pirates, however, who rallied from 1-0 to tie the game in the fifth, then score the go-ahead in the extra frame.

Perquimans, seeded 15th in the 1A East, has reached the third round or better the last three seasons. This spring’s trek is extra special for coach Justin Roberson, who had to replace 11 seniors from last year’s club. The Pirates next go to East Carteret.

Camden, the co-champs of the Coastal 10 Conference, finish 2016 with a 19-5 record.
