Adams talks U.S. Open
Earlier this week, defending Biggs Classic champion Frank Adams III spoke with The Daily Advance about his experience at the U.S. Open at Oakmont last week.
Adams qualified for the major with a third-place finish at a sectional qualifier in Georgia earlier this month.
On experience at the U.S. Open
Adams: “It was a lot of fun. It was a great week. I wish that I would have played a little bit better.”
On when he had the “wow” moment at the Open
Adams: “Going down the second hole, I realized we jumped into the deep end. You better buckle up.”
“I was surprising comfortable when I got there.”
On dealing with the weather
Adams: “I had played nine holes, four days in a row leading up to it and we were getting kind of use to the firm conditions and sure enough, it rains three inches. It threw a wrench in the plans and everybody had to adjust.”
Where the U.S. Open appearance ranked in his career
Adams: “It’s definitely up there. I have to say it’s a highlight. Even to be a missed cut. I’d tried pretty much every year since I turned pro and even before that. To finally get into one is something special. That 36-hole day at sectional is a tough one. It was nice to crack through the barrier and get in one.”
