All-Area banquet

Many of the top athletes from the high school fall season in northeastern North Carolina met for the annual All-Area banquet on Sunday.

Sixty-three were recognized in football, volleyball, boys’ soccer, girls’ tennis and boys and girls’ cross country at the Northeastern cafeteria. The guest speaker was Travis Bond, a Canadian Football League player and former lineman at Bertie.

Former ECSU receiver signs with Indoor Football League’s Sioux Falls Storm

Former Elizabeth City State wide receiver Lovie Banks-Rose signed with the Sioux Falls Storm of the Indoor Football League, the South Dakota based team announced on Sunday.

Banks-Rose — a native of Washington, D.C. — played his senior season at ECSU in 2015, in which he tallied 614 receiving yards with six touchdowns.

Banks-Rose was an all-Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association honorable mention pick his final season at Elizabeth City State.

In the Bonus | Gates at Camden Basketball

The Camden boys and girls picked up wins against Coastal 10 Conference rival Gates on Tuesday.

The Camden boys rallied to defeat the Red Barons 55-53.

Camden boys basketball coach Mark Harnly on his reserves’ effort: “I thought guys stepped in and did a good job. A lot of guys did a lot of things that don’t show up in the stats. I thought that we fought as a team. I’m pleased.”

The Lady Bruins held on to top Gates 33-30.

Camden girls basketball coach Matt Sundberg on the younger players on the team finding a rhythm: “Some of these freshman are jumping right from eighth grade to varsity. We’re basically at the halfway point and I think that they are getting into a rhythm.”
