The first week of the high school football season is officially in the books after Currituck’s 14-0 win against Manteo Monday night.
With all teams in the 1A Albemarle Athletic Conference and the 2A Northeastern Coastal Conference with a game under their belts, I have my rankings of teams after the first week of games.

3.) Gates (1-0): defeated Hertford County 21-20
4.) Bertie (0-1): lost to Williamston-Riverside 34-28
5.) Currituck (1-0): defeated Manteo 14-0
6.) Washington County (0-1): lost to Tarboro 49-6
7.) Hertford County (0-1): lost to Gates 21-20
8.) First Flight (0-1): lost to John A. Holmes 52-27
9.) Manteo (0-1): lost to Currituck 14-0
10.) Pasquotank (0-1): lost to SouthWest Edgecombe 54-0
11.) Camden (0-1): lost to Weldon 46-0
12.) Perquimans (0-1): lost to Northside-Pinetown 38-0
CAMDEN — Camden’s Cailey Byrum crushed a walk-off three-run home run to right field in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Lady Bruins to a 6-3 victory against Northside-Pinetown in the fourth round of the 1A state playoffs at Camden’s softball complex on Friday.
Northeastern High School hosted the River City Invitational in Elizabeth City on Saturday.
A majority of the 16 schools competing were either from northeast North Carolina or the Hampton Roads region of Virginia at the one-day tournament.
